2025 Prospects Big Board

Azad Earl's 1st edition of the 2025 prospects rankings for the 2025 MLB Draft.
Our rankings will start off with 100 players, and expand every other week with 20 players being added with each update until the draft is here. Since we're a college baseball site, it'll only include players of the college variety. Included in each player's tab is their counting stats, traditional stats, and advanced ones as well as a write-up. While the list is analytical, it's still subjective and will change consistently throughout the year as players improve/regress. This is far from a science and while we'll try to get the evaluations right, there will always be room for error.

The approach with Robinson is overly passive, swinging only 31.5% of the time. He’ll need to swing more moving forward, but in a vacuum the hit tool is solid, posting a 14.2% chase rate with minimal swing and miss to his game. The max EV is 108.4 mph, but his average and 90th percentile marks show that there’s likely more in the tank.

Adams is eligible again as a sophomore after drawing draft interest as a prep in 2023. While the fastball was in the low-90s, peaking at 94 mph, he’s an athletic lefty with projection left on the frame and more velocity to come. He shapes two breaking balls: a slider and a curveball, which both project as solid-average offerings. His change-up is a relatively unique profile, getting 16” of vertical break and 4” of arm-side, an almost identical profile to his fastball.

Patton is another projectable, lower velocity LHP with great fastball shape, but is still in need of a velocity bump. He gets 20” of carry at 89 mph on average, topping at 93 mph. He doesn’t have a big breaking ball shape, getting short shapes on a curveball and a slider, but has a solid feel for both. He throws a mid-80s change-up with 15” of arm-side as well.

Riojas is a UTSA transfer who will be with the Texas Longhorns in 2025. He’s a reliever with a 3 pitch mix, all 3 profiling as strong-average. The fastball is 92-94 with 20” of carry, which has been his go-to. He throws a slider and a change-up, both carrying impressive results in small samples. He’ll show the mix in a more complete manner this spring, and could project as a solid mid-round college relief option.

Shelton’s hit tool is a problem for me. He chased >30%, whiffed >30%, and whiffed in-zone >20%. Players with that profile don’t usually make it far in professional baseball without top of the scale defense, which is not the case here. There’s bat speed and plus raw power, but if it’s usable is still to be decided. There’s prospect pedigree here, and the bull case is that if his hit to was below average (45-grade) it becomes attractive as a senior sign, but I’m not sold on that being a possibility.

Faurot is a switch-hitting MIF with above-average power. Through the first week of 2025 his career max EV is already up from 108 to 111 mph, which vaults him up my ranking. He's an aggressive hitter, chasing 37.9% and swinging in-zone 80.4%. When considering the swing rates and chase numbers, Faurot's bat-to-ball skills looks really strong, 25.6% whiffs. He'll play 2B for Florida State this year, but should have a shot to give it a run at SS in pro ball.

Ligon is a high stuff senior sign, a profile that's done well in recent years. He's touched 99 mph from a low release height with average shape, but will get results regardless. He's got 2 breaking ball shapes, both of which are thrown in the mid-80s, being a slider with 5" of glove-side and a curveball with 4" of depth and 4" of sweep. His change-up averages 89 mph with minimal vertical and 13.5" of arm-side. His command is touch and go, which will be a key for him in terms of draft positioning.

He's got 3 shapes, none of which are loud, but the work and have ticked up this spring. He throws the fastball at 95 mph and touches 98 with 16" of carry, but average 19" in his first start this year. His slider is a shorter profile, but he thows it hard and draws whiffs on it. The change-up is a middling shape but sits 88-89 mph and preforms up as a result.

A 19th round pick in 2024 by the Texas Rangers, Obermueller returned to school and will be eligable again this year. It's a 2 pitch mix, but an outlier release and above-average velocity. He's been up to 97 mph in 2025 from a 4.8' release height with 6.8' of extension. The sweeper is a big shape, but is so far off of the fastball it may play down. He's got the traits to project as an interesting bullpen arm, but is in need of a third pitch.

Kurland followed the Jud Fabian path and enrolled early at Florida, and is now eligable for the draft. Kurland is a smaller bodied 2B with above-average power. The issue here is the hit tool, which has been below-average. There's both whiff and chase to his game (near-30% on both), which has led to a 25% K rate. The whiff rate came down a bit on the Cape this summer, and his contact quality with wood was strong as always, which keeps him in as a solid mid-to-late round pick in my book.

Wills was a draft prospect as a prep, as well as tracking to be a draft pick last summer before missing time. He’s a plus runner who’s spent time playing multiple positions in his 2 years at UNC-W. There’s above-average raw power here, but he’s struggled at times to get to it, showing significant variance in both his launch angles and exit velocities, with the aggregate batted ball profiles being slightly underwhelming. The hit tool is strong, with there being minimal chase and whiffs being under control, which is a positive sign.

Peterson had played in just 32 games over the past 2 seasons at Oregon State entering 2025, with his preformace in that sample being a mixed bag. There was a lot of whiff in his 2024 season (41.3% in 17 games), but has a 14.3% whiff rate in 2023. He's never chased a ton and has shown the ability to make great swing choices, though he's a bit passive in the box. The power came on in full during the first weekend of 2025, showing a 112.3 max EV, which is a nice compliment to what has been great contact quality in each of the previous 2 years. If the swing-miss returns to a respectable level the sky is the limit here.

The fastball shape is poor, getting 12" of vertical and 14" of arm-side in 2024 but is up a few ticks this year, touching 100 mph. The slider is really more of a cutter, getting 5.5" of carry and 3" of cut, while the change-up is about an average third pitch. It's a bullpen arm in my opinion, being velocity dependant with lacking shapes.

Monistere doesn't stand out with a plus tool but is a well-rounded player with 50s across the board. There's power here, with a 110 mph max EV, but his average EV runs really light at 84.7. He's also had issues with the consistency of his batted ball spray, which has been a lean on his BABIP. His contact numbers are solid, whiffing just 23.4% of the time and he's got average swing decisions. He can run and he'll play a solid 2B as well. The profile isn't loud, but there's a floor.

Major portal acquisition for Auburn who will likely start this spring. True outlier release, low 3/4th look from a 5.1’ vertical release with above-average extension has allowed his 2-seam fastball, which averages 90 mph, to play at a high level in the SEC. The slider is strong-average, 12” of sweep and drawing 41.6% whiffs and plus contact results in 2024, though he will need more velocity moving into pro ball. Third pitch change-up with true ASR profile but has had mixed results on balls in play.
