Hipwell broke out as a sophomore, while the defense is questionable he's an incredible hitter. He's physical with a barrel chested build and large frame. He gets to his raw power easy with a steep swing path that works up, his bat speed is well above-average and he's doing damage even on his mishits. He hit a home run 108 mph last year at 38 degrees and regularly hits with flush contact. He's not a high contact type because of the path, but his swing decisions are so good that he can cover up some of the issues in his hit tool. He walked more than 20% of last year, but he punched out at a similarly high clip. As a corner bat with hit tool concerns there's risk but I love the power/eye combo and think he can be an above-average defender at first.
