2024 PFPs Record: 1-1 (-0.15u)
College Baseball Picks For February 15th
(All bets are to win 1 unit)
8:00 PM ET: +130 Nebraska vs Vanderbilt -166 (O/U 11.5)
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Nebraska: Ty Horn (2024: 19.2 IP, 4.12 ERA, 19 K, 8 BB, 4.23 SIERA)
Vanderbilt: Ethan McElvain (2024: 25 IP, 3.24 ERA, 29 K, 15 BB, 3.76 SIERA)
We’re running it back with another late night MLB Desert Invitational under. The cold conditions and dry air don’t allow these juiced baseballs to fly nearly as far compared to elsewhere in the country.
Ty Horn is a breakout candidate that the Nebraska staff is super high about. The Cornhuskers returned four pitchers with more starts than Horn, yet Will Bolt and company awarded the Sophomore the Saturday job. That is a vote of extreme confidence. Horn will flood the strike zone with a 4-pitch mix highlighted by a low-to-mid 90s fastball and great slider.
Former blue chip recruit Ethan McElvain will oppose Nebraska. We didn’t get to see a full campaign from the southpaw last season due to a back injury. However on the Cape McElvain tallied 11.2 innings and posted a 0.77 ERA.
Add in the fact that the Commodores’ offense was not good enough last season ranking 129th nationally and 10th in the SEC with an .840 Team OPS. Tim Corbin and the VandyBoys thought they added some much needed pop in the lineup with James Madison transfer Mike Mancini and true freshman Brodie Johnston. Both guys suffered preseason injuries and will be out for an extended period of time.
The Cornhuskers weren’t that much better at the plate last year. Nebraska ranked 114th in D1 with an .850 Team OPS. Seven regular hitters from that lineup return to Lincoln for 2025.
The Bet: (-115 DK) Under 11.5 Nebraska/Vanderbilt
6:00 PM ET: +124 Campbell at UC Santa Barbara -160 (O/U 11.5)
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Campbell: David Rossow (5 appearances in career)
UC Santa Barbara: Jackson Flora (2024: 47 IP, 3.83 ERA, 40 K, 25 BB, 4.56 SIERA)
This is definitely an Opening Day overreaction but… Campbell might not be good this year. The Camels only tallied one hit on Friday. FYI Tyler Bremner only pitched three innings. Plus this play is a fade against David Rossow who has only made five appearances in his four year college career.
Jackson Flora is a superb No. 2 starter for the Gauchos. Last season Flora was an All Big West Honorable Mention after recording five saves and four starts. Although he didn’t punch many batters out last season, Flora will dictate at bats with a high 90s fastball. Yesterday the Camels struck out in 47% of their ABs. Flora should be able to dice up some dudes Saturday night.
The Bet: -160 UC Santa Barbara ML
Good luck to those who tail!
